MicroBooNE: Late Light Studies and TPC Crate Tests

چکیده

This paper primarily discusses two components of the MicroBooNE neutrino experiment’s preliminary tests in its final months before it commences testing. The first of these tests was a series of performance checks on the nine TPC crates designed for the experiment. Backplane beam tests, backplane supernova tests, and ASIC tests were performed extensively to ensure the TPC crates met standards for their arrival in August. All nine crates were brought up to standards to prepare them for shipping to Fermilab. The other component was a search for late light in previous tests taken at Bo. After various methods of determining an appropriate shaper pulse, deconvolutions were performed on Bo data to extract the prompt and late lights’ corresponding times of arrival. Deconvolutions produced appealing delta functions, but the identity of the later delta functions remains yet to have its identity confirmed.

Summer 2013 REU Research Summary : MicroBooNE

This paper is a final write-up of my work at Columbia University/Nevis Labs as part of the NSF-sponsered REU program. The paper begins with a discussion of the physics and scientific goals of MicroBooNE. It then moves on to a summary of my contributions to the project. These include commissioning of the TPC readout equipment, calibration of the PMT readout system, and construction of an interac...

MicroBooNE TPC Calibrations

This paper presents a few of the studies preformed to test the electronic equipment on the MicroBooNE detector at FermiLab. The aspects of the electronics that are being checked include the gain and linearity of the output data pulse, the cross talk between wires, and the effects of a change in the trigger time on the pulse. This analysis is done at every stage of the set up, thus the compariso...

The Muon Counter System for the MicroBooNE experiment

The MicroBooNE experiment is a liquid argon TPC experiment designed for short-baseline neutrino physics, currently running at Fermilab. Due to its location near the surface, cosmic muons can be a source of backgrounds to many analyses and having a good understanding of the cosmic rays will be very valuable for the experiment. These proceedings describe the physics motivation, setup, and perform...

Liquid Argon Scintillation Light Quenching due to Nitrogen Impurities: Measurements performed for the MicroBooNE Vertical Slice Test

The neutrino experiment MicroBooNE is currently under construction. To expedite the physics output of MicroBooNE, a smaller version of its optical detection system has been implemented. To demonstrate full operability of this prototype, two physics measurements were performed. The first examines the number of scintillation light components, for although theory explains two components, other gro...

Testing of Cryogenic Photomultiplier Tubes for the MicroBooNE Experiment

The MicroBooNE detector, to be located on axis in the Booster Neutrino Beamline (BNB) at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), consists of two main components: a large liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC), and a light collection system. Thirty 8inch diameter Hamamatsu R5912-02mod cryogenic photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) will detect the scintillation light generated in the...
